“The Guardians: Hero and Superhero,” two 13-foot-high statues by acclaimed Italian architect and designer Antonio Pio Saracino, gifts from the Italian government to the United States now stand proudly in the plaza of 1095 Avenue of the Americas. “Hero,” made from stacked marble slates, is an interpretation of Michelangelo’s “David”, the symbolic defender of the city of Florence.
The incandescent white marble used to create the 8,000 pound defender was supplied by ABC Stone.
