Scheduled to be unveiled in October 2026, the Japanese Canadian Monument in Victoria, British Columbia, will honour nearly 22,000 Japanese Canadians who were forcibly uprooted from their homes and communities during the 1940s. At the heart of the project is a 300-foot-long, stone-engraved Wall of Names made up of 100 Barre Grey granite panels, permanently recording those affected and organized by the communities where they lived prior to 1942. Of the 100 panels, 11 are freestanding and feature no visible mechanical anchorage. The panels are 5" thick, 3' wide, and nearly 9' tall, and are designed to withstand the extreme seismic loads applicable in British Columbia. PICCO is supporting this important stone feature, working with stone installer Scorpio Masonry to help bring the commemorative design to life as a lasting place of remembrance, education and reflection. The monument will preserve these stories for generations to come.
